As we enter the final months of 2025, it is a fitting time to reflect on the changes and challenges that have shaped the business landscape this year. From advances in artificial intelligence to shifts in workplace culture, many organisations have had to adapt quickly to stay on course.
Earlier this year, our Managing Director Nigel Heneghan was invited to sit down with IGNITE UCC to share his perspective on emerging trends across the business world and offer practical advice to leaders preparing for the future.
“Artificial Intelligence is the main catalyst for change in how we will work in the future”, Nigel said in the interview. “It is very much a reality now and a definite enhancement to the armoury of tools businesses have at their disposal.”
Throughout 2025, AI has continued to evolve, not only in terms of technology, but also in how organisations understand its strategic potential. Nigel emphasised the importance of education, stating “Companies need to educate themselves on how AI best fits into their business model; and they also need to ensure staff are equally educated.”
While the new reality of remote work remains a fixture in many industries, Nigel noted that it can present challenges, particularly for firms with younger inexperienced employees. “They need to be present and get the benefit of direct guidance from their senior colleagues,” he said. “This cannot be achieved in a remote environment, so the solution is properly structured balance.”
For businesses, this means ensuring that flexibility doesnot come at the expense of development and collaboration.
Social media has seen notable shifts in 2025. Nigel highlighted the decline of X, and the resurgence of Truth Social in response to political developments in the US. Meanwhile, both TikTok and Instagram continue to hold strong positions, and the arrival of Bluesky and Threads have added fresh dynamics.
“It is important for companies to assess how and which platforms are useful and those that can be put aside,” he advised. “That will depend to a large extent on what customers or consumers are up to. It will be an interesting year in the development and evolution of social media.”
As the year draws to a close, Nigel’s reflections offer a timely reminder: the businesses that thrive will be those that continue to learn, adapt and evolve.
